We Need Interns
South Schuylkill Unified is seeking two interns to help support our growing community and economic development work across the South Schuylkill region.
We are currently recruiting for:
Downtown Development & Community Engagement Intern
This intern will assist with economic development, business outreach, Main Street planning, community engagement, student listening sessions, research, meeting support, and project coordination.
Social Media & Community Storytelling Intern
This intern will help share SSU’s work through social media, website updates, newsletter content, business spotlights, event promotion, photos, short videos, and community stories.
These internships are ideal for junior or senior students who want flexible, hands-on experience in nonprofit work, community development, communications, business support, public engagement, and regional collaboration. Penn State Schuylkill students are strongly encouraged to apply as SSU continues building its partnership with the school and involving students in our planning, process, strategies, and execution.
No prior professional experience is required. A willingness to learn, strong communication skills, creativity, and a passion for South Schuylkill or the subject matter are highly desired. A small stipend is available.
Event Support
Help plan and execute community events like the Cressona Block Party or Borough Days.
Ways to Volunteer
From helping at borough community days to supporting our local businesses, there are many ways to put your skills to use for South Schuylkill.
Outreach & Communication
Assist with social media, newsletters, and spreading the word about regional progress.
Main Street & Projects
Work on physical revitalization projects and beautification throughout downtown areas.
Committees
Organization Committee
Focuses on building a strong foundation for revitalization through community partnerships, volunteer management, and fundraising.
Meets monthly on the 1st Monday at 5:30 PM
Promotion Committee
Market the region’s unique local identity, activities, and assets to visitors, residents, and investors alike.
Meets monthly on the 2nd Tuesday at 6:00 PM
